Revision Rhinoplasty

A rhinoplasty revision is intended to repair function and shape to a nose that has already undergone some type of surgery. For example, if you didn’t like the results of your previous rhinoplasty, or if you experience difficulty breathing, then you might consider a rhinoplasty revision. Just because a rhinoplasty is one of the most common surgeries, does not mean that it is easy. In fact, it is known as one of the most difficult plastic surgeries. Some patients have had up to seven surgeries until they were able to reach their desired goal.

The rhinoplasty procedure is typically performed at an office-based facility and might require general anesthesia. However, depending on the procedure, local anesthesia with sedation might be the best option. This procedure tends to take longer than the first surgery and can exceed two hours. The incision will be made inside the nose if it is a closed rhinoplasty and under the tip of the nose if it is an open rhinoplasty. Overall, open rhinoplasty has higher desired reached goals.

At the time of surgery, the skin and bone are separated again from the bone and cartilage. Once reshaped, the skin is reattached over the new frame and the incisions are sutured. The second procedure is less painful than the first one and the bruising might be less noticeable. The sutures, or stitches, are removed after a few days. This does not typically exceed eight days, depending on the surgeon’s indications. Some other post-operative care is needed such as no rough movements, no sunburn, avoiding strenuous activities, etc.
